Express Yourself: 6 Holiday Decorating Tips

Christmas comes early to Expressions Flowers. When everyone is excited to finally have that pumpkin spice latte in their hands, the florists in our shop are hard at work making our own winter wonderland indoors.

If you’re wondering what to do with your holiday decorations, you’re in the right place. Below you’re going to find six ideas that can help you make your home feel like an inviting holiday oasis your guests will never want to leave.

Consider magnolias. One trend for the 2017 holiday season is a departure from the traditional pine garland. Consider putting up a garland of magnolia leaves. These traditional Southern leaves will deck your halls with a touch of class and individuality that can set it apart.

Rethink your options. Choose colors or winter-themed items that appeal to you and let those colors and themes run through your displays. These days you can find decorations in any color your heart desires, so if you’re feeling more teal and pink than bright green and Santa’s hat red, go for it.

Create a running theme with a few new things. Shiny new baubles hanging alongside the well-loved ornament your child made years ago can make for a stunning way to combine your favorites with something new. You can then add similar items to garlands and wreaths to carry the theme throughout your home.

Think outside the box.  Don’t be afraid to look away from tradition in searching for your holiday style. When it comes to the holidays, what is most important is that your decorations please you. If something unusual strikes your fancy—or if something traditional no longer appeals to you—it’s okay to incorporate or discard decorations as you see fit.

Don’t forget about scent. One of the things customers notice when they walk into Expressions Flowers is the smell. If your home smells like Christmas, it will feel like Christmas, too.  Here at Expressions, we carry scented oils, candles, and potpourri that can help you out in that regard.

If all else fails, visit our master florists. If you’re feeling lost, you’re always welcome to visit Expressions Flowers. We’re a full-service florist, and we’d be glad to make the custom garlands or wreaths of your dreams. We’re devoted to making your home or business exactly the kind of holiday paradise you’ve always wanted.
