Summer offers a great opportunity to catch up on pleasure reading. Now that you don’t have to pour over textbooks, those lazy rainy days can be spent with a book that can take you on a fantastical journey, intrigue you with mystery or scratch the
corners of your mind. This is an excellent time to explore the local library or head out to your favorite book store.
One of my favorite book haunts is Chapters On Main in Van Buren. This quaint little reading nook offers much more than good books of every genre – and it’s really not so “little” at all as it offers thousands of titles for purchase! While you’re there you can enjoy a specialty coffee or tea as you browse the shelves.
Last year Debbie and Alan Foliart and their grandson Christian, bought the building that housed thousands of used books. What they created is a multi-level store with an awesome mix of new and used books for every age, interest and lifestyle. Each level offers shelves of books as high as the ceiling!
If you’re spending the summer with younger siblings as tag-alongs or have a summer babysitting job, the upstair children’s nook is the place to take them. It’s a cozy area where books become best friends and imaginations can run wild. Every Saturday morning there is a story time from 11 – noon.
Did I say Chapters is more than a bookstore? You betcha! It’s also a coffeehouse with specialty coffees (hot or iced) and teas. If you get there before 10 am you can feast from an all-you-can-eat waffle bar that offers your choice of exotic toppings. Or – you can make it a Friday night destination for waffle desserts while enjoying live music out on the front patio.
Chapters on Main is located in historic downtown Van Buren at 816 Main Street – across from the train station. Check them out at chaptersonmain.com or call 479-471-9315.
